إِنِّى وَجَدتُّ ٱمْرَأَةً تَمْلِكُهُمْ وَأُوتِيَتْ مِن كُلِّ شَىْءٍ وَلَهَا عَرْشٌ عَظِيمٌ
иннии вəджəтту-мрō`əтəн тəмликуhум вə`уутийəт миŋŋ-кулли шэй`иу-вəлəhəə 'əршун 'əз̃ыым
I found a woman ruling over them, and she has been given everything, and she has a great throne.
وَجَدتُّهَا وَقَوْمَهَا يَسْجُدُونَ لِلشَّمْسِ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ أَعْمَٰلَهُمْ فَصَدَّهُمْ عَنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ فَهُمْ لَا يَهْتَدُونَ
вəджəттуhəə вəќōумəhəə йəсджудуунə лиш-шəмси миŋŋ-дууниль-лəhи вəзəййəнə лəhумуш-шэйтōōну ə'мəəлəhум фəсōддəhум 'əнис-сəбиили фəhум лəə йəhтəдуун
I found her and her people prostrating to the sun instead of Allah, and Satan has made their deeds seem decorous to them—thus he has barred them from the way [of Allah], so they are not guided—
أَلَّا يَسْجُدُواْ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِى يُخْرِجُ ٱلْخَبْءَ فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا تُخْفُونَ وَمَا تُعْلِنُونَ
əльлəə йəсджудуу лильлəhиль-лəз̃ии йухриджуль-хōб`ə фиис-сəмəəвəəти вəəль`əрды вəйə'лəму мəə тухфуунə вəмəə ту'линуун
so that they do not prostrate themselves to Allah, who brings forth the hidden in the heavens and the earth, and He knows whatever you hide and whatever you disclose.
ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ ۩
аллаhу лəə илəəhə ильлəə hувə рōббуль-'əршиль-'əз̃ыым
Allah—there is no god except Him—is the Lord of the Great Throne.’
۞ قَالَ سَنَنظُرُ أَصَدَقْتَ أَمْ كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلْكَٰذِبِينَ
ќōōлə сəнəŋŋз̃уру əсōдəќтə əм куŋŋтə минəль-кəəз̃ибиин
He said, ‘We shall see whether you are truthful, or if you are one of the liars.
ٱذْهَب بِّكِتَٰبِى هَٰذَا فَأَلْقِهْ إِلَيْهِمْ ثُمَّ تَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ فَٱنظُرْ مَاذَا يَرْجِعُونَ
из̃həб-бикитəəбии həəз̃əə фə`əльќиh илəйhим c̃уммə тəвəльлə 'əнhум фəəŋŋз̃ур мəəз̃əə йəрджи'уун
Take this letter of mine and deliver it to them. Then draw away from them and observe what [response] they return.’
قَالَتْ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمَلَؤُاْ إِنِّىٓ أُلْقِىَ إِلَىَّ كِتَٰبٌ كَرِيمٌ
ќōōлəт йəə əййуhəəль-мəлə`у иннии ульќийə илəййə китəəбун кəриим
She said, ‘O [members of the] elite! Indeed a noble letter has been delivered to me.
إِنَّهُۥ مِن سُلَيْمَٰنَ وَإِنَّهُۥ بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
иннəhу миŋŋ-сулəймəəнə вə`иннəhу бисмиль-лəhир-рōhмəəнир-рōhиим
It is from Solomon, and it begins in the name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
أَلَّا تَعْلُواْ عَلَىَّ وَأْتُونِى مُسْلِمِينَ
əльлəə тə'люю 'əлэййə вə`туунии муслимиин
[It states,] ‘‘Do not defy me, and come to me in submission.’’ ’
قَالَتْ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمَلَؤُاْ أَفْتُونِى فِىٓ أَمْرِى مَا كُنتُ قَاطِعَةً أَمْرًا حَتَّىٰ تَشْهَدُونِ
ќōōлəт йəə əййуhəəль-мəлə`у əфтуунии фии əмрии мəə куŋŋту ќōōты'əтəн əмрōн həттəə тəшhəдуун
She said, ‘O [members of the] elite! Give me your opinion concerning my matter. I do not decide any matter until you are present.’
قَالُواْ نَحْنُ أُوْلُواْ قُوَّةٍ وَأُوْلُواْ بَأْسٍ شَدِيدٍ وَٱلْأَمْرُ إِلَيْكِ فَٱنظُرِى مَاذَا تَأْمُرِينَ
ќōōлюю нəhну уулюю ќуувəтиу-вə`уулюю бə`син шəдиидиу-вəəль`əмру илəйки фəəŋŋз̃урии мəəз̃əə тə`муриин
They said, ‘We are powerful and possess a great might. But it is up to you to command. So consider what orders you will give.’
قَالَتْ إِنَّ ٱلْمُلُوكَ إِذَا دَخَلُواْ قَرْيَةً أَفْسَدُوهَا وَجَعَلُوٓاْ أَعِزَّةَ أَهْلِهَآ أَذِلَّةً ۖ وَكَذَٰلِكَ يَفْعَلُونَ
ќōōлəт иннəль-мулююкə из̃əə дəхōлюю ќōрйəтəн əфсəдууhəə вəджə'əлюю ə'иззəтə əhлиhəə əз̃ильлəh, вəкəз̃əəликə йəф'əлююн
She said, ‘Indeed when kings enter a town, they devastate it, and make the mightiest of its people the weakest. That is how they act.
