إِذَا ٱلشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ

из̃əəш-шəмсу куувирōт

When the sun is wound up,

وَإِذَا ٱلنُّجُومُ ٱنكَدَرَتْ

вə`из̃əəн-нуджууму-ŋŋкəдəрōт

when the stars scatter,

وَإِذَا ٱلْجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتْ

вə`из̃əəль-джибəəлю суййирōт

when the mountains are set moving,

وَإِذَا ٱلْعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتْ

вə`из̃əəль-'ишəəру 'уттылəт

when the pregnant camels are neglected,

وَإِذَا ٱلْوُحُوشُ حُشِرَتْ

вə`из̃əəль-вуhуушу hуширōт

when the wild beasts are mustered,

وَإِذَا ٱلْبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتْ

вə`из̃əəль-биhəəру суджджирōт

when the seas are set afire,

وَإِذَا ٱلنُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتْ

вə`из̃əəн-нуфуусу зуувиджəт

when the souls are assorted,

وَإِذَا ٱلْمَوْءُۥدَةُ سُئِلَتْ

вə`из̃əəль-мəу`уудəту су`илəт

when the girl buried-alive will be asked

بِأَىِّ ذَنۢبٍ قُتِلَتْ

би`əййи з̃əмм-бин ќутилəт

for what sin she was killed.

وَإِذَا ٱلصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتْ

вə`из̃əəс-суhуфу нуширōт

When the records [of deeds] are unfolded,

وَإِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ كُشِطَتْ

вə`из̃əəс-сəмəə`у кушитōт

when the sky is stripped off,

وَإِذَا ٱلْجَحِيمُ سُعِّرَتْ

вə`из̃əəль-джəhииму су''ирōт

when hell is set ablaze,

وَإِذَا ٱلْجَنَّةُ أُزْلِفَتْ

вə`из̃əəль-джəннəту узлифəт

when paradise is brought near,

عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَّآ أَحْضَرَتْ

'əлимəт нəфсумм-мəə əhдōрōт

then a soul shall know what it has readied [for itself].

فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلْخُنَّسِ

фəлəə уќсиму би-ль-хуннəс

So I swear by the stars that return,

ٱلْجَوَارِ ٱلْكُنَّسِ

əльджəвəəриль-куннəс

the comets,

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا عَسْعَسَ

вəль-лэйли из̃əə 'əс'əс

by the night as it approaches,

وَٱلصُّبْحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ

вəс-субhи из̃əə тəнəффəс

by the dawn as it breathes:

إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ

иннəhу лəќōулю рōсуулин кəриим

it is indeed the speech of a noble apostle,

ذِى قُوَّةٍ عِندَ ذِى ٱلْعَرْشِ مَكِينٍ

з̃ии ќуувəтин 'иŋŋдə з̃ииль-'əрши мəкиин

powerful and eminent with the Lord of the Throne,

مُّطَاعٍ ثَمَّ أَمِينٍ

мутōō'ин c̃əммə əмиин

one who is obeyed and is trustworthy as well.

وَمَا صَاحِبُكُم بِمَجْنُونٍ

вəмəə сōōhибукумм-бимəджнуун

Your companion is not crazy:

وَلَقَدْ رَءَاهُ بِٱلْأُفُقِ ٱلْمُبِينِ

вəлəќōд рō`əəhу би-ль-уфуќиль-мубиин

certainly he saw him on the manifest horizon,

وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى ٱلْغَيْبِ بِضَنِينٍ

вəмəə hувə 'əлəəль-ґōйби бидōниин

and he is not miserly concerning the Unseen.

وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَيْطَٰنٍ رَّجِيمٍ

вəмəə hувə биќōули шэйтōōнир-рōджиим

And it is not the speech of an outcast Satan.

فَأَيْنَ تَذْهَبُونَ

фə`əйнə тəз̃həбуун

So where are you going?

إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَٰلَمِينَ

ин hувə ильлəə з̃икрул-ли-ль-'əəлəмиин

It is just a reminder for all the nations,

لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَسْتَقِيمَ

лимəŋŋ-шəə`ə миŋŋкум əй-йəстəќиим

for those of you who wish to walk straight;

وَمَا تَشَآءُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

вəмəə тəшəə`уунə ильлəə əй-йəшəə`əл-лаhу рōббуль-'əəлəмиин

but you will not wish unless it is wished by Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.
