كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّونَ ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ

кəльлəə бəль туhиббуунəль-'əəджилəh

No! Indeed, you love this transitory life

وَتَذَرُونَ ٱلْءَاخِرَةَ

вəтəз̃əруунəль-əəхырōh

and forsake the Hereafter.

وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاضِرَةٌ

вуджууhуй-йəумə`из̃ин-ннəəдырōh

Some faces will be fresh on that day,

إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌ

илəə рōббиhəə нəəз̃ырōh

looking to their Lord,

وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بَاسِرَةٌ

вəвуджууhуй-йəумə`из̃имм-бəəсирōh

and some faces will be scowling on that day,

تَظُنُّ أَن يُفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌ

тəз̃унну əй-йуф'əлə биhəə фəəќирōh

knowing that they will be dealt out a punishment breaking the spine.

كَلَّآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلتَّرَاقِىَ

кəльлəə из̃əə бəлəґōтит-тəрōōќий

No indeed! When it reaches up to the collar bones

وَقِيلَ مَنْ  ۜ رَاقٍ

вəќиилə мəн рōōќ

and it is said, ‘Who will take him up?’

وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ ٱلْفِرَاقُ

вəз̃ōннə əннəhуль-фирōōќ

and he knows that it is the [time of] parting,

وَٱلْتَفَّتِ ٱلسَّاقُ بِٱلسَّاقِ

вəəльтəффəтис-сəəќу бис-сəəќ

and each shank clasps the other shank,

إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمَسَاقُ

илəə рōббикə йəумə`из̃инль-мəсəəќ

that day he shall be driven toward your Lord.

فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ

фəлəə сōддəќō вəлəə сōльлəə

He neither confirmed [the messages of Allah], nor did he pray,

وَلَٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ

вəлəəкиŋŋ-кəз̃з̃əбə вəтəвəльлəə

but denied [them] and turned away,

ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ يَتَمَطَّىٰٓ

c̃уммə з̃əhəбə илəə əhлиhи йəтəмəттōō

and went back swaggering to his family.

أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ

əулəə лəкə фə`əулəə

So, woe to you! Woe to you!

ثُمَّ أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰٓ

c̃уммə əулəə лəкə фə`əулəə

Again, woe to you! Woe to you!

أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ أَن يُتْرَكَ سُدًى

əйəhсəбуль-иŋŋсəəну əй-йутрōкə судəн

Does man suppose that he has been abandoned to futility?

أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةً مِّن مَّنِىٍّ يُمْنَىٰ

əлəм йəку нутфəтəмм-мимм-мəниййий-йумнəə

Was he not a drop of emitted semen,

ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ

c̃уммə кəəнə 'əлəќōтəн фəхōлəќō фəсəувəə

and then a clinging mass? Whereat He created and proportioned [him],

فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ

фəджə'əлə минhуз-зəуджəйниз̃-з̃əкəрō вəəль`уŋŋc̃əə

and made of him the two sexes, male and female.

أَلَيْسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يُحْۦِىَ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ

əлэйсə з̃əəликə биќōōдирин 'əлəə əй-йуhйийəль-мəутəə

Is not [someone like] that able to revive the dead?

هَلْ أَتَىٰ عَلَى ٱلْإِنسَٰنِ حِينٌ مِّنَ ٱلدَّهْرِ لَمْ يَكُن شَيْـًٔا مَّذْكُورًا

həль əтəə 'əлəəль-иŋŋсəəни hиинумм-минəд-дəhри лəм йəкуŋŋ-шэй`əмм-мəз̃куурō

Has there been a period of time for man when he was not anything worthy of mention?

إِنَّا خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِن نُّطْفَةٍ أَمْشَاجٍ نَّبْتَلِيهِ فَجَعَلْنَٰهُ سَمِيعًۢا بَصِيرًا

иннəə хōлəќнəəль-иŋŋсəəнə мин-нутфəтин əмшəəджин-ннəбтəлииhи фəджə'əльнəəhу сəмии'əмм-бəсыырō

Indeed We created man from the drop of a mixed fluid so that We may put him to test, so We endowed with hearing and sight.

إِنَّا هَدَيْنَٰهُ ٱلسَّبِيلَ إِمَّا شَاكِرًا وَإِمَّا كَفُورًا

иннəə həдəйнəəhус-сəбиилə иммəə шəəкирōу-вə`иммəə кəфуурō

Indeed We have guided him to the way, be he grateful or ungrateful.

إِنَّآ أَعْتَدْنَا لِلْكَٰفِرِينَ سَلَٰسِلَاْ وَأَغْلَٰلًا وَسَعِيرًا

иннəə ə'тəднəə ли-ль-кəəфириинə сəлəəсилə вə`əґлəəлəу-вəсə'иирō

Indeed for the faithless We have prepared chains, iron collars, and a blaze.

إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ يَشْرَبُونَ مِن كَأْسٍ كَانَ مِزَاجُهَا كَافُورًا

иннəль-əбрōōрō йəшрōбуунə миŋŋ-кə`син кəəнə мизəəджуhəə кəəфуурō

Indeed the pious will drink from a cup seasoned with Kafur,
